Subject: MakeTeXPK question



How often should I expect MakeTeXPK to have to make fonts?
It seems that whenever I run dvipsk on a file for the first
time (i.e., first time for that file), MakeTeXPK starts up
Metafont and begins to crank out what look like page numbers.
It claims to put the result in some file with a font-like
name, but I can never find it.  No postscript file for the
input file is generated (at least nowhere I can find it).

My current solution is to "uninstall" MakeTeXPK by renaming
it; then everything runs just as I expect it to.  But what
is going wrong, that I have to do this for it to work?

I installed dvipsk using the defaults, except for the gcc flag
-g and choosing NOT to pipe the output to lpr (though I had
the same problem before I changed the output redirection).
I have not yet installed pk300, but that was supposedly
optional.

Do you have any clue what might be amiss?  If you need further
